Top 8 Benefits of Using Essential Oils

There are many benefits of using Essential Oils in your home. They’ve become extremely popular all over the world and are being used by people of all ages.

Woo Woo No More

What was once thought of as woo-woo and out-there thinking has become a norm for many homes. I am one of those. Natural products that help you in some way are often my first choice in caring for my health. I am a big advocate of taking vitamins and using herbs  to keep me healthy.

So when I decided to start learning about and testing essential oils I fell in love with how they made me feel.

But wait a minute, lets back up.

What, exactly, are essential oils?

According to Rocky Mountain Oils company,

They are called “essential” because they contain the essence of a plant, including its aromatic and wellness properties.

Essential oils are becoming extremely popular worldwide, but what exactly are they? In short, essential oils are concentrated, liquid plant extracts used for aromatic and wellness purposes. They are called “essential” because they contain the essence of a plant. Essential oils come from a variety of plant sources, including flowers, grasses, fruits, roots, trees, and leaves.

How does this essence actually help then?

Essential oils have been used by folk medicine and many other cultures thoughout history for their medicinal and therapeutic uses.

They’ve become popular in recent years as a naturopathic medicine, as an aromatherapy healing aid and for enhancing our mood.

One of my favorite ways to use essential oils is on scented candles and through a diffuser.

8 Benefits of Essential Oils

1. Improves mood. A few drops laveder essential oil in your bath relaxes you when you are stressed for example.

2. Boost immune system. If you feel a little down or stressed a few drops of Rosemary oil in a diffuser might help.

3. Relieves pain and congestion. Feel a cold coming on? Use cinnamon essential oil as part of an aromatherapy session to help clear a chest cold.

4. Regulates hormones. As women, our hormones are often out of whack no matter what age we are often making us depressed.. Cleary sage is an essential oil I keep misting in my bedroom diffuser has helped alleviate my depression. And my thyroid hormone levels have improved.

5. Diminishes appearance of wrinkles. Diluted real lemon essential oil is effective at diminishing wrinkles, toning our skin and promoting circulation. Yay, it might help us look younger,  🙂

6. Soothes nausea. Peppermint oil is popular as a breath freshener, but did you know it can help soothe an upset stomach?

7. Inflammation relief. Tea tree oil is one of the most popular essential.oils to benefit you  when treating skin inflammation. It reduces redness as well. I caution using it full strength, though as it’s a strong oil…I had an allergic reaction that gave me a bad rash. 😯

8. Reduce sunburn pain. Spent too long having fun at the beach, forgetting your sun lotion? Apply carrot seed essential oil to your skin to reduce sunburns.

Using oils

There are different ways to use essential oils.

  • topically on your skin
  • Indirect inhalation using a cotton ball, reed, spray bottle

  • Blending with carrier oils for skincare products like soap

Finally

Before you use any type of essential oil know its  designation.. Is it perfume grade? Food grade? High-quality? Natual ingredient? Synthetic?
